Abstract

874,542. Screwing-up nuts. LEDLOY Ltd. May 7, 1958 [May 9, 1957], No. 14731/57. Addition to 809,941. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII] In a modification of the torque multiplying spanner of the parent Specification a visual indication is provided of the degree of tightness of the nut upon which the spanner is operating. The spanner body 10 which carries a washer engaging socket 11, has fixed thereto an annular end-cap 29, the nut engaging socket 13 having fixed thereto a rearwardly extending stem 16, the rearmost end of which is located in the central aperture of the cap 29. The nut socket 13 has a rearwardlyextending boss 15 to which is fixed one end of a sleeve 17, the other end of the sleeve being rotatably mounted in a ball-bearing housed in the annular cap 29. The end of the stem 16 is provided with a ring 31 which substantially fills the aperture in the cap 29. Co-operating markings are provided on the end faces of the cap 29 and the ring 31, means being provided for adjusting the markings to zero position. The sleeve 17 has a heavy section coil-spring 19 which is a tight fit on the outside thereof, the free end being connected to an actuating lever 21 having its inner end formed as a ring 22 which is rotatable about the sleeve 17. An operating lever 25 is pivoted at 26 to anchorplates 27 fixed by screws 28 to the spanner body, the lever 25 being connected through pivot links 23 to the lever 21. The spanner may be of the power-operated type and incorporate means for automatic cut-off of the power either at a predetermined degree of torque or after a predetermined amount of rotation of the nut.
