Class 120(2) A mounting for releasably and adjustably securing spindle - bases in spinning machines comprises a spindle-base 4 having a cross-section of the same external shape and size throughout its length and a separate releasable flange 5 carried by or formed by a spindle rail, the flange having an opening to receive the base and a slit 7 extending laterally from the opening which is contractable, e.g. by a screw 8, to clamp the base. The opening may be square; the housing may be profiled; there maybe a second split-like opening opposite the slit 7 in which the screw 8 may be disposed; the screw 8 may carry a knee-brake or holding-hook for the spindle; and a clamping- plate may be disposed beneath the flange. A split liner which may be flanged may be inserted between base and flange; the liner may be threaded at its lower part to receive a nut to tighten a compression spring bearing beneath the rail to secure the mounting, clamping washers being provided. The flange may be secured to the rail by a set screw with or without a tubular distance piece to enable the mounting to be swung relatively to the rail. When the spindle-rail serves as the flange, adjacent openings are joined by a common slit; or the slit may extend through the whole length of the rail with a screw or screws between openings.
