Abstract

874,323. Laminates; coated fabrics. RHODES & SON (BARNSLEY) Ltd., H. Dec. 10, 1958 [Sept. 10, 1957], No. 28455/57. Class 140. A woven textile fabric incorporating a succession of decorative or other motifs at intervals throughout its length comprises a woven body formed from warp and weft threads or yarn ends, into which body are simultaneously woven additional threads or yarn ends extending warpwise and producing the motifs and inserted in such a manner that they, where they pass from one motif to the next, are floated on the outer surface of the fabric below a greater number of consecutive wefts than the average number of wefts underwoven by the warps, the floating lengths being thereafter sealed or secured to the back of the fabric by a layer, film or coating of thermoplastic material (e.g. synthetic resin), rubber or other suitable flexible substance. The sealing layer may be sprayed in fluid form on to the fabric, or may be in fabric or sheet form and adhered to it. The body of the fabric may be of jute, and the additional warps of jute, wool, cotton or regenerated cellulose, and of natural colour or dyed. According to the Provisional Specification, the additional ends are applied to already woven or unwoven material.
