873,843. Bows for stringed instruments. LUCCHESI, L. Aug. 14, 1957 [Sept. 21, 1956], No. 25683/57. Class 88 (2). In a mechanically operated bow for violins &c. two endless belts B of hair, nylon thread or tape run on pulleys which are mounted in supports K and are driven in opposite directions by an electric motor F. The speed of the motor may be controlled by a pedal-operated rheostat H. In one arrangement, the shaft M of a pulley C is coupled to the motor by a flexible shaft G and is coupled by reversing gears to a second pulley D which rotates in the opposite direction. The gearing, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown) and 8, is housed within the pulleys. In another arrangement, Figs. 9, 10, the flexible shaft is connected to a shaft T carrying a bevel gear U engaging separate gears V integral with the pulleys W.
