873,667. Leather working machines. STROJOSVIT, NARODNI PODNIK. Sept. 14, 1959 [Nov. 22, 1958], No. 31170/59. Class 76. In a leather working machine having opposed pressure members between which the work is compressed, one of the pressure members consists of one or more pressure-applying levers, each of which, at that portion of it by which pressure is exerted on the work, is provided with an elastic surface such as an elastic insert which cooperates with the opposed companion pressure member to compress the work and to supply the requisite pressure. In a preferred embodiment a fixed fluted axle 1 is fitted with a series of grooved hubs 2 and vulcanized rubber inserts 4 which may be modified in shape and hardness according to the requirement placed on the pressure mechanism. The piece of leather 22 to be treated is spread by rails 16 and distributing knives 17, and is operated upon, on the resilient support 15, by the working tool 23 such as a band knife and is withdrawn by rollers 24 and 25. The spreading rail 16 can be adjusted independently as to height in grooves 33 and is secured in position by the plates 20 and screws 18. In the lateral direction it can be adjusted around a screw 19 by means of a slot 34. The spreading rail 16 can also be adjusted by turning the levers 21 against each other through a number of grooves 35 on the axle 1.
