Abstract

873,338. Hydraulic presses. BLISS (ENGLAND) Ltd., E. W. Nov. 3, 1959 [Nov. 3, 1958], No. 35242/58. Class 69 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A cold extrusion press has an inner slide 12 selectively movable by hydraulic means 11 in opposite directions, and an hydraulically interconnected outer slide 14 having limited relative movement in either direction but movable with the inner slide when the limit of relative movement is reached. The inner slide has a body 12a of square or rectangular section and a cylindrical projection 12b. It is actuated by a double-acting piston 11 working in a main cylinder 10 having a pre-fill valve 26a, 26 opening to a reservoir 27 and supplied with pressure liquid by a pump 19 through a main control valve 20 actuated manually, electrically or hydraulically. A hold-up valve 24 is fitted in the return pipe 23. Outer slide 14 has pistons arranged concentrically of the press axis and working in cylinders 13 of the inner slide. These cylinders are supplied from the main control valve 20 through a two-way valve 29 and a relief valve for maintaining pressure during combined backward and forward extrusion. Abutment flanges 15, 16 cause the outer ram to move with the inner ram when the limit of relative movement is reached. The control valve 20 may be omitted when a variable delivery reversible pump 19 is used. Examples are described for forward, backward and combined extrusion. The outer slide 14 may carry a punch guide and stripper plate.
