Abstract

Cyanuric acid is prepared by decomposing urea and/or biuret by heat in the presence of 2,6-xylenol. The amount of xylenol should be at least equal to the urea and/or biuret, and heating should be in excess of 150 DEG C., e.g. 180-200 DEG C., for 1-10 hrs. The precipitate of cyanuric acid on cooling may be filtered off and alcohol may be added to the reaction mixture prior to filtration. The xylenol may be re-used.
