Abstract
872,767. Toothed gearing. BORG-WARNER CORPORATION. Feb. 1, 1960 [Feb. 4, 1959], No. 3550/60. Class 80 (1). In an external or internal gear each tooth has a pair of mirror edges defining the contour thereof and disposed on opposite sides of its centre line, and the addendum portion of each edge comprises two portions, a first portion being defined by a straight line and a second portion being defined by part of an epicycloid, in the case of an external gear, or part of a hypocycloid, in the case of an internal gear, having a starting point spaced a greater distance from the centre line on the pitch line circle than the dedendum line. In Fig. 7, each tooth 66 of an internal gear 65 has an epicycloid dedendum 70, which meets the pitch line circle PLI at a point 72, and an addendum portion 71 comprising a hypocycloid 76, having a starting point 78, and a straight line portion 75 joining the point 72 with a point 77 on the hypocycloid. Each tooth 80 of an external gear 79, Fig. 8, has a hypocycloid dedendum 84, which meets the pitch line circle PLE at a point 86, and an addendum portion 85 comprising an epicycloid 90, having a starting point 92, and a straight line portion 89 joining the point 92 with a point 91 on the epicycloid. Formulµ for the chordal tooth spaces are given. Corresponding formulµ for conventional cycloidal internal and external gears are also stated. The invention is applied to the gears of an internalexternal gear type pump.
