Class 106(5) [Also in Group XXVIII] A device for dispensing measured quantities of material from a pressurized container 12 comprises a measuring chamber 21, a hollow valve plunger 25 co-operating with a resilient seat 32 to form inlet means from the container to the measuring chamber and having an aperture 29 which, when depressed below a resilient seal 19, communicates the measuring chamber to atmosphere, and a pocket or auxiliary chamber 13 which communicates with the measuring chamber through passages 40 so that, as the measuring chamber fills from the container, air trapped in the pocket is compressed and, when the outlet 29 is opened, expands again to drive the measured material before it through an operating button or spray head 34. The chamber 13 may be provided as an additional fitment to the valve housing 15 or as an integral part of it and enables the container to be pressurized by a gas miscible with the contents or by an immiscible gas, such as nitrogen, which forms a gas head at the top of the container for forcing the material up the dip tube 33. In a modification, an annular spring-loaded piston is provided round the valve housing and the expansion of the air co-operating with the spring forcing down the piston ensures a more constant pressure for driving the material from the measuring chamber.
