Abstract
872,611. Buoy release means. HORSTMAN, Ltd., GRIFFITHS, L. M., ADAMS, G. A., and SCOTT, K. M. Sept. 4, 1959 [June 16, 1958], No. 19145/58. Class 77. [Also in Group XXXIII] Means for effecting automatic release of buoyant apparatus upon submergence of a sinking vessel in the event of there being insufficient time in which to effect manual release comprises a casing consisting of end walls 6, 6a and one or more intermediate ring-like members 5 connected together at 7 to form a cylinder, the end wall 6 and members 5 being formed with openings 6b, 8 for ingress of water, and two or more flexible diaphragms 25 which combine with a fixed baffle plate or plates 28 to divide the casing into watertight compartments, the diaphragms being fitted at their peripheries between the members forming the casing and clamped at their centres to a locking rod 9 which is slidable through the baffle plates and projects out of the casing and coacts with a releasable part 12 of an aniboring strap normally retaining the buoyant apparatus secured in position, the arrangement being such that upon the casing becoming submerged water enters and acts on the diaphragm to impart axial movement to the locking rod 9 to disengage the end 9a thereof from the slip link 12 of the aniboring strap. The end wall 6a and baffle plates 28 have air outlet valves 31, 32. The manually withdrawable pin 21 is held in engagement with the slip link 12 by an easily sheared pin 22.
