872,370. Sharpening shears &c. PERKINS & SMITH Ltd., JOHN M. May 2, 1960 [May 15, 1959], No. 16685/59. Class 60. A device for sharpening shears, scissors and other hand tools having a pair of coacting blades comprises a body 10 having, in addition to a transversely-extending base by means of which it is secured to a supporting surface, a slot divided into two portions 13, 14 by a fixedlymounted sharpening element 12 presenting two cutting edges respectively to the adjacent ends of the slot portions 13, 14, the arrangement being such that, in use, the blades to be sharpened are inserted into the slot and pushed across the two cutting edges in a direction generally parallel to the supporting surface. The body has-apertured securing lugs 11 at each end and the slot portions 13, 14 on opposite sides of the sharpening element 12 are slightly offset from each other in the vertical direction, and the surfaces 15, 16 which constitute guides for the blades being sharpened are either coplanar or substantially so. The sharpening element is mounted across the stop in inclined position in slots 18, 19 in the body, and at the rear side may be provided with a backing element 17. The body may be of synthetic resin and sharpening element of tungsten carbide.
