Abstract

In the manufacture of semi-conductive material a mixture comprising natural or synthetic rubber, e.g. butadiene-acrylonitrile in powdered form, an inert filler, e.g. asbestos, electrically conductive particles, e.g. carbon, and a phenolic resin, e.g. phenol-formaldehyde, is milled, aged and moulded at a temperature and pressure selected to produce a predetermined electrical resistivity of the material. The mix, which may include conventional vulcanizing ingredients, may be milled, between rolls preheated to 120 DEG -140 DEG F. before compression moulding to the desired shape, e.g. a clutch plate, disc or drum for use in an electroadhesive device. A suitable mould is described.
