Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a material, having the water absorbing property, touch equal to the natural ivory, and weight sensation and coefficient of friction, resembling the ivory, and suitable for a keyboard material, by kneading casein with an anhydrous inorganic filler and water, molding the kneaded material, impregnating the kneaded material with formalin, and curing the resultant impregnated material.
CONSTITUTION: 100pts.wt. powdery casein, preferably rennet casein having a particle size ≤100μ, as a matrix resin is kneaded with 10W200pts.wt. anhydrous inorganic filler, e.g. silicon oxide, and 10W40pts.wt. water, and the resultant mixture is allowed to stand at almost room temperature for 5W24hr and swollen. The swollen mixture is then molded at a pressure of 100W200kg/cm2 and a temperature of 20W100°C. The resultant molded article is impregnated with formalin in a concentration of 3W10% at almost room temperature, e.g. an article of 3mm thickness for 6 days, and cured. The molded and cured article is then dried under heating at 20W45°C and then processed.
