Abstract

A moulding powder for the production of abrasion resistant products comprises an intimate admixture of a major proportion of powdered polyethylene and a minor proportion of finely divided solvent resistant synthetic linear polyamide. Polyhexamethylene adipamide or sebacamide or polycaprolactam are mentioned and they may be of precipitated powder with an average particle size no greater than 20 microns, in 25% of the total composition. Mixtures of the nylons may be used and other fillers e.g. wood flour included. Articles may be prepared by injection moulding or extrusion or they may be surfaced with the composition and they show improved abrasion resistance and wear characteristics.
