Abstract
A method of protecting metals against corrosion due to contact with corrosive vapour of organic solvents, consists in using irrigating means to maintain on a metal surface which would otherwise be exposed to the corrosive vapour, a film of the liquid constituting the liquid phase of the vapour. The vapour may be that of a chlorinated hydrocarbon such as trichlorethylene. In a preferred apparatus, a distillation or extraction vessel 1 communicates at its lower end through a filter 2 with a tower 3 through which steam or a hot liquid flows. The corrosive liquid passes <PICT:0871430/III/1> through a plurality of tubes 4 in which it boils and then it passes through a conduit 5 fitted with a nozzle 6 located in the upper part of the vessel 1 thus maintaining a film of protective liquid on the wall of the vessel. Alternatively, the liquid may be supplied to the irrigating means by a pump.
