Abstract

A pigment presscake of high pigment content is produced by suspending the pigment in water, adding thereto a solution containing not more than 2%, based on the dry weight of pigment, of a methyl cellulose or methyl starch, the said methyl cellulose or methyl starch being soluble in cold water and insoluble in hot water, heating the dispersion so obtained to at least the temperature at which flocculation occurs and separating the pigment from the mother liquors while still hot. Suitable additives are methyl cellulose having two methoxy groups per anhydro glucose unit, the methyl starch having one methoxy group per anhydro glucose unit. Examples relate to azo and phthalocyanine dyestuff pigments. Inorganic pigments such as titanium dioxide and iron oxide, metallized pigments and vat dyestuffs may also be used. Specification 653,772 is referred to.ALSO:Hot pigment suspension is filtered through a filter press preheated by boiling water or steam to more than 70 DEG C. The press cake may be washed with water at 80 to 100 DEG C. Specification 653,772 is referred to.
