Abstract

871,135. Cartons. UNIPAK CARTONS Ltd. Dec. 9, 1959 [April 14, 1959], No. 41927/59. Class 18. A carton having a wall structure, folded up e.g. from a blank 30 as in Fig. 2, comprises an interior partitioning assembly fixed thereto and including a member formed from e.g. the blank in Fig. 1 constituted by a pair of mutually opposed adjacent panels 1, 2 which have portions 23, 23a, 23b bent out to define a cut-out area and to form transverse partitions secured to the walls 31, 32 by intermediate portions 28, the pariels 1, 2 having auxiliary panels 4, 5 which with tabs 8a, 9a of the panels 1, 2 form a longitudinal partition and occlude the cut-out areas. The partitioning assembly is made up by folding the auxiliary panel 4 so that score line 13 coincides with score line 3 and adhesive strips 12 and 19 slide to adhesive strips 20 and 21, and incisions 14 and 16 register ; next the auxiliary panel 5 is folded along score line 7 so that adhesive strip 22 sticks to an adhesive strip on the obverse of extension 12 on the panel 4. A slidable carrying handle 50 may now be inserted through the combined incisions 14, 16. The combined panels 1 and 4 are folded so that an adhesive strip on the obverse side coincides with a similar strip on the obverse of the combined panels 2 and 5. The whole assembly is joined to the wall structure blank 30 by placing it thereon with the intermediate portion 20 and tabs 8b of the panel 2 in registry with adhesive strip 45 or wall 32 and end tab 9 in registry with strip 44 or end wall 34, and then folding the blank 30 up into tubular form so that the other portion 28 and tab 9b register with strip 45 on wall 31. The carton in this knock-down form is erected simply by opening it and sealing bottom portions 37, 38. Modifications are described in which the panels are connected to the outer margins of their auxiliary panels, or the auxiliary panels are joined to their respective panels at their end margins by score lines at right-angles to the central crease 3, either both at the same end or at opposite ends ; alternatively, one auxiliary panel is connected along an end margin while the other is connected in a similar manner to that shown in Fig. 1. Specification 858,215 is referred to.
