Abstract
871,051. Motor vehicle suspensions. HIRST, T. E. C. Jan. 5, 1960 [Jan. 20, 1959], No. 1995/59. Class 108(2). A suspension for a motor vehicle comprises rubber units 2 that encircle or partly encircle the axles with their outside perimeters giving support to housing units 3 attached to the body 1 or body and chassis structure, the units 2 being positioned at the maximum possible distance from the wheels while pivoted members 4 maintain the axles in position relative to the body. Undue sway of the body is prevented by cable loops 6. The housing units may be shaped so that their area of contact with the rubber, to which they may be bonded, increases with the deflection of the suspension. The application of the invention to swing axles is also described.
