Abstract

A method for the preparation of water-dispersible metal pigments is characterized in that previously comminuted ductile metal (e.g. aluminium, copper, zinc, gold, silver, brass or bronze) is ground while water is added. Preferably, atomized aluminium powder if a grain size less than 500 millimicrons, water, a lubricant and an emulsifying agent are introduced into a ball mill or an oscillating mill. The lubricant may be a fat or fatty acid e.g. grease, oleic acid or stearic acid. The emulsifying agent may be morpholine, triethanolamine, albumens, casein, gelatine, glue or gum arabic.
