870,272. Compost making bins. DAVIS, G. M. Feb. 17, 1959 [Nov. 18, 1957], No. 35783/57. Class 111. A bin for the reception of garden, kitchen and other waste for conversion into compost, comprises a plurality of separate unconnected sections preferably of square or rectangular shape in plan view, each having a vertically disposed surrounding wall and a substantially unobstructed interior, the sections being arranged to rest freely on top of one another to define a continuous, vertical tubular shaft for the reception of the waste, and spacing members carried by the sections so that the surrounding walls of adjacent superposed sections are spaced apart to provide air spaces, the bore of the shaft being substantially unobstructed. As shown the bin is provided with a readily detachable roof 3 of flexible material which may be folded back to inspect the contents of the bin and has attachment means 5 which hook under the uppermost section in use to hold the roof in position.
