[Also in Group XXXV] A system for controlling the angular position of a shaft 34 employs an electromagnetic or electrostatic selsyn machine comprising two rotary units on the same shaft but angularly displaced from one another by 90 electrical degrees so that their inductances or capacities vary inversely and may be used to determine the angular position of the shaft by providing a null position between the two (see Group XXXV). As shown, using an inductive type device in which the inductance of coils 7, 8 varies inversely over the angular range in use, these coils are energized from transformers 23, 24 through variable taps 21, 22 which are arranged by a common control device (not shown) to pick off voltages whose sum is constant. The taps are connected to the coils 7, 8 through rectifier bridges 30, 31 connected backto-back so that any difference of current in the two coils appears as an error current which is amplified at 32 and fed to a servo-motor 33 which is connected to the selsyn device by shafting 34 in the usual way.
