Abstract
604,185. Rectifying. MANDL, A., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Aug. 8, 1940, No. 12738. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVIII] In a control system in which uni-directional current through an inductive load varies in correspondence with a variable amplitude A.C. input at 1 connected across on diagonal of a rectifier bridge 3, the other diagonal of which is connected over resistances 5 to a constant A.C. supply 4, current flow though the load is restricted due to blocking of the bridge an alternate half-cycles by supply 4 and to avoid this, particularly when a relatively high frequency such as 1000 v. is used, the load is shunted by a suitably poled rectifier 9. The invention is applicable to selsyn systems in which misalignment voltage (input 1) at the receiver is used to control a motor or Ward-Leonard. system (load 6) which positions a controlled body and restores alignment, e.g. the system described in Specification 527,768, [Group XXXVIII]. The arrangement shown in Fig. 1 provides a non-reversible driving system, but in the case of Fig. 2, the split winding 8a, 8b of a reversible drive are associated with a rectifier bridge 9a which provides for current flow over each windings on alternate half cycles. The input 1 is in phase agreement with or phase opposition to the supply 4 in accordance with the direction of misalignment of the selsyn receiver. Specification 592,208, [Group XXXVIII], also is referred to.
