868,423. Knitting. WIGNALL, H., WIGNALL, K. R., and WIGNALL, B. D. Nov. 20, 1959 [Dec. 4, 1958], No. 39127/58. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2). The toe of a sock is formed by continuous rotary knitting and is shaped by varying the structure of the toe as compared with that of the foot. The toe is closed by stitching coursewise across the shaped tube portion forming the toe where it is narrowest. The variation in the structure is effected by changing to a narrow rib formation such as 1 X 1 or 2 X 2 rib as compared with either a plain or broad rib formation in the foot and may be further enhanced by varying the loop length.
