Abstract
868,346. Magnetic structures. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 2, 1959 [Sept. 5, 1958], No. 29959/59. Class 38 (2). To reduce friction and the accumulation of spurious electrostatic charges on a magnetic recording tape, the magnetic coating material which may include ferric oxide, iron, nickel-iron or nickel-cobalt-iron also contains sufficient molybdenum di-sulphide to provide at least 1 gm. per 12 m.<SP>2</SP> of the finished coating. Alternatively, this lubricant may be applied as a super-coating to a normal magnetic layer. The base is typically of synthetic plastic film with high intrinsic electrical resistivity. The molybdenum disulphide reduces the requisite tapedriving tension to below the level at which " slip-stick " at the heads causes spurious noise signals.
