Abstract

868,054. Substation circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 1, 1958 [Aug. 2, 1957], No. 24873/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (4). Non-linear resistance elements are connected in shunt across two or more of a group of circuit components consisting of the transmitter, receiver, line-balancing network, and line terminals; the voltage applied to the non- linear elements depends solely on the voltage developed across a controlling resistor which is traversed by at least part of the unidirectional transmitter-energizing current received at the line terminals. In one embodiment, the controlling resistor is provided by one winding of the induction coil. In another, the receiver is connected across a bridge circuit of which two arms include the non-linear resistance elements and the other two are formed by means of a tapping on the controlling resistor, the tapping point being chosen to give little or no direct current through the receiver. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 694,705.
