Abstract

Class 20(1) [Also in Group XXII] A column comprises a sheet metal blank bent into longitudinally tapering tubular form and joined at its longitudinal edges or margins bordering thereon. An overhead lighting standard 10 of circular cross-section and tapering towards the top is made of aluminium alloy or coated steel sheet bent to tubular form and joined at its edges, either in one piece or in the form of two tubular parts welded or otherwise fastened end to end. At its lower end below ground the column 10 has secured thereto a base plate 11 and, if the column is to contain control equipment, is formed near its larger end with an aperture 12. A surround 13, Fig. 2, either continuous or in the form of peripherally spaced sections, is bolted to the column and a door 18, formed with a peripheral channel 20, which may contain a rubber sealing member 21, engages a rib 17 of the surround 13. The door 18 is held in position by hooks 22 thereon and a latch 25, on a lockable shaft 24 rotatable in the door, engaging a catch plate 26 on the surround 13.
