Class 51 (1). In an automatic regulating system for a furnace, all the variables required are measured in a model furnace proportionate with the main furnace in respect of size and specific thermal capacity which is fed through branch lines from the fuel and air supplies of the main furnace and the gas outlet of which leads into that of the main furnace, and the variables are kept constant in the model furnace by known regulators, and corresponding adjustments are made to the main furnace by devices controlled by the known regulators. The fuel and air supplies to the model and main furnace are maintained at a preset ratio, which may be automatically varied to compensate for minor disorders in the main furnace indicated by an additional measurement and control device, which may provide an alarm signal if serious disorders occur. Measuring devices in the gas outlets, particularly in the outlet from the model furnace, control the regulators to restore any deviations from an ideal value.
