[Also in Group XVIII] In a machine for weighing granular material, a weighing-bin 3 resting on three load cells 7 is located below a feed-bin 2 and above a discharge bin 4, the tare or net weight of bin 3 being recorded and totalled. The bins are coupled together by dust-tight fabric connections 11, and the assembly is provided with vertical channels 18 to reinforce the walls and permit quick exhaust of air during filling. Each bin is emptied by a sliding gate 15 operated by an air-cylinder 17, controlled by the load cell signals. To check the calibration of the load cells a weight 19 surrounds bin 3, supported by ropes 20 controlled by an air cylinder 22 to (a) lift bin 3 to check the zero reading of the load cells; (b) remain free of bin 3 to check its empty weight and (c) restore bin 3 to check the calibration of the load cells.
