Abstract

1432391 Load cells D C ENGLISH J L McCAULEY and G A HOLMSTROM 2 July 1973 [3 July 1972] 31398/73 Heading GIN A load cell comprises a beam 9 Fig. 5 supported at end portions 12 and carrying a load on its centre portion 10, the cross-section being reduced at 16 between these portions, to be distorted by the load by an amount measured by strain gauge resistors 17, 18 in a bridge network. For measuring the weight of logs L Fig. 1 on a truck 1 and trailer 2, two beams 9 are located on each part, supporting bunks 4, 5 for the logs. The output signals from the strain gauge bridge for each beam 9 are selectively added to enable the load on each part and the total load to be determined. Facilities are provided for offsetting the tare weights and for calibrating the sensitivity of the network. A scale pan balance using four beams 9 is also described Fig. 9 (not shown).
