Abstract

866,925. Lining pipes. INSULATING COMPONENTS & MATERIALS Ltd. Jan. 28, 1959 [Nov. 4, 1957], No. 34291/57. Class 99(2). A method of applying a reinforced synthetic resin lining inside a tube comprises arranging a sleeve formed of fibrous material inside the tube, impregnating the sleeve before or after insertion with a hardenable synthetic resin and rotating the tube to apply the resin-impregnated sleeve by centrifugal force until the resin has partially set. The sleeve of woven, braided or plaited fibrous material e.g. glass, asbestos, cotton nylon, ramie, or "Terylene" (Registered Trade Mark), may be one or more continuous tubes or wound strips. The resin may be polyester, furane, epoxide, silicone, melamine or a thermoplastic resin, and a catalyst such as methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and an accelerator such as cobalt naphthenate may be used. An electric motor 9 drives a chuck 8 which can be tilted through 45 degrees by rotating a pivotably mounted table 5. The tube 29 containing a resin impregnated sleeve is rotated in the horizontal position or is tilted with a sleeve inside whilst resin is poured in the open end in which a cap 30 is subsequently fitted. A mole centre 20, moved by a rack and pinion, is located in the cap 30 whilst the tube is rotated. An electric heater 22, which may be of the infra-red type, and a cowl 23 may be fitted to accelerate the hardening of the resin.
