Abstract

[Also in Group XVI] In a method of decorating ceramic ware by applying a hand stamp thereto, the stamp is coated by applying it to a travelling endless band which bears a coating of the decorating medium and which is supported from below at the point where the hand stamp is applied, and is applied manually to the ware. The support may be provided by a flat plate underneath the band at the point of application of the stamp, and a device may be provided for depositing a uniform and unvarying coating of the decorating medium on the surface of the belt. The medium may be a metallic suspension or ceramic colour. As shown, a frame 10 carries rollers 11, 12 round which passes an endless band 13 and which are driven slowly, either continuously or intermittently, by gearing. A flat supporting plate 15 extends below the band 13 underneath the point of application of the stamp 16. The medium is applied to the band 13 by a coating roller 18 gear driven from the roller 11 and is applied to the roller 18 by an adjustable doctor blade 20 which is spring-urged against the end of the adjusting screw 21. The frame 10 may be rocked about the pivot 32 to hold the roller 11 and band 13 against the roller 18 by the adjustment of a screw 33 bearing in a cup 36 on the end of the spring 37.
