Abstract

866,473. Self-levelling arrangements. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 20, 1957 [Aug. 24, 1956], No. 26036/56. Class 113. A stabilised platform system comprises a fluid-containing chamber 10 within which a platform 11 is completely immersed in the fluid 12, the platform being susbtantially neutrally buoyant in the fluid so as to be substantially wholly supported thereby and, wherein the platform is located with respect to the chamber in a manner to allow it at least one degree of rotational freedom relative thereto by a bearing 13 which provides a pivotal location for the platform and which is carried by at least one support arm 14 attached to the structure of the chamber. The fluid is preferably liquid, and may be heated. If gas is used it must be at high pressure to have sufficient density. The attitude of the platform is stabilised by a fluid jet reaction control system 16 mounted on the platform.
