Abstract

866,321. Transmission line terminations. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Nov. 8, 1957 [Oct. 26, 1956], No. 32810/56. Class 40(8) A terminating device for a waveguide system comprises a short-circuited waveguide section 1 having a matched dissipative load 5 at the shortcircuited end and an intermediate dielectric member 4 which provides an impedance irregularity of desired value. The load 5 may be made of a hardened admixture of iron dust and an epoxy resin or a piece of glass thinly coated with metal by, e.g. evaporation. It is designed to have a voltage reflection coefficient of less than 0À003. The dielectric member may consist of a slab of polytetrafluorethylene, polythene or resin bonded paper. It may be held in place by polystyrene cement. A set of such terminations, having dielectric members dimensioned to provide a series of standing wave ratios may be used to calibrate the test apparatus described in Specifications 864,860 and 866,320.
