Abstract

866,302. Springs. CRANE PACKING Ltd. Nov. 4, 1958 [Nov. 7, 1957], No. 34699/57. Class 108(3). In a resilient pressure applying device a spring element 2, Fig. 1, comprising loops 2a alternating with close coiled portions 2b, is supported on a circular wire former 1. The loops 2a are directed angularly with respect to the plane of the circular carrier 1. The carrier 1 need not be circular, but can be square, triangular, elliptical or of figure eight shape. The resilient loops 2a may be directed outwardly rather than inwardly. Loops 2a may be directed alternately outwardly and inwardly. Two separate series of loops 2a, Fig. 7, formed from separate lengths of. spring wire may be threaded on to a carrier 1. Alternate loops 2a above the carrier 1 are angularly disposed with respect to each other as are those below the carrier. The carrier may be bent into its final shape either before or after the spring element is threaded on to it. The "wire" may be of plastic material.
