Abstract

A rubber-like composition of improved resistance to ozone and oil comprises, by weight, a mixture of from 30 to 50% of polyvinyl chloride, 20 to 40% of a polymer of butadiene 1, 3 and acrylonitrile and 20 to 40% of a polymer of butadiene 1, 3 and styrene, the percentage proportions being based on the weight of the mixture of these three constituents, the mixture being subjected to a temperature of at least 120 DEG C., preferably between 150 DEG and 165 DEG C., during its compounding. Plasticizers, stabilizers, softeners, pigments &c., may be added during the hot mixing or thereafter to the cooled mixture together with sulphur and accelerator. The composition may be shaped, e.g. by extrusion, moulding or calendering, before vulcanization in conventional manner. A preferred mix comprises, by weight, 35 to 45% of polyvinyl chloride and 55 to 65% of the two butadiene 1, 3 copolymers, the copolymer with acrylonitrile preferably containing 20 to 40% of acrylonitrile and that with styrene 20 to 30% thereof.
