Abstract
866,000. Fluid heaters. YUBA CONSOLIDATED INDUSTRIES Inc. May 26, 1959 [July 22, 1958], No. 17875/59. Class 64(1) A heater for oil or other liquid or gas comprises a plurality of vertical tube units each comprising two spaced tubes, said units being arranged within a furnace chamber 10, one tube 21 of each unit being located near the chamber wall forming an outer tube bank, and the other tube 21 of each unit being radially spaced from the first inwardly towards the centre of the unit forming an inner tube bank, one or more central burners 12 being disposed within the inner tube bank and a ring of burners 13 extending between the inner and outer tube banks so that the inner tube bank is heated directly on both sides and the outer tube bank is heated directly only on its inner side and on its outer side by re-radiation from the furnace chamber wall which is preferably provided with a refractory lining (not shown). In the form shown, the tubes, of the outer bank are connected below the bottom wall 11 of the furnace chamber, with an annular inlet manifold 30 for the fluid to be heated and the tubes of the outer bank communicate with a further annular manifold 31. A conical baffle 32 on the axis of the furnace chamber serves to direct the burner gases over the tubes before they pass to the stack 16. In a modification (Fig. 3) the conical baffle is omitted and, the fluid is preheated before passing to the inlet manifold 30 in a finned tube coil 40 suspended from a grid 42 and located in the stack 16.
