A loose leaf binder, of the kind comprising a strip or bar 2 to be secured to the cover of a folder and a strip or bar I pivoted at 3 to one end of the bar 2 for swinging movement away from the bar 2, the bars being fitted with arcuate posts 4 which coact to form closed loops when the bars are closed together, has the opposed longitudinal edges of the bars 1, 2 meeting and abutting when closed so that the bars are in the same plane and the free or outer end of the movable bar I is formed with a lateral extension 7 or 13 directed towards the fixed bar 2 and the free end of the bar 2 is formed with a raised portion 8 or 15 beneath which the extension 7 or 13 may be engaged, the extension 7 or 13 being provided or formed with a locking nose 9, 9a or 12 which coacts with the raised portion 8 in the closed position to lock the two bars releasably together. As shown in Fig. 3, the extension 7 is formed with a curved lug 9, at right angles thereto, which snaps over the edge of the raised portion 8, a ball end 10 forming a finger grip to assist opening and closing the two bars. As shown in Fig. 5, a lug 9a on the extension 7 fits into a similarly shaped depression 11 in the raised portion 8, the parts being angled as shown or curved. When made of plastic material, the finger grip ball 10 may be replaced by a serrated edge to the extension 7. As shown in Fig. 10, the extension 13 is formed with a stud 12 to engage a hole 14 in the raised portion 15 which is formed with a guiding lip 16. In place of the ball 10, an angular finger grip 17 is provided. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 751,943.
