Abstract

864,639. Protective arrangements. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. July 27, 1959 [Aug. 1, 1958], No. 25631/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVI] Rotatably mounted rectifiers 26 in the field circuit of a turbo generator are protected by fuses 30 in a wheel which rotates with the rectifiers. The rectifiers, e.g. of silicon type, are arranged for three-phase, full-wave operation and, in general, there are several elements in parallel in each limb of the circuit, each with its own fuse. Thus, failure of one or a few elements is not catastrophic; they are disconnected by their fuses and their share of the load is taken by the remainder. In parallel with each fuse is an indicator 32, either a lamp or a fusible wire, or the fuses themselves may give an indication when blown. The wheel in which they are mounted is recessed to allow stroboscopic viewing of the indicator.
