Abstract
864,555. Centrifugal casting-machines. AMERICAN CAST IRON PIPE CO. Dec. 17, 1959 [March 31, 1959], No. 42890/59. Class 83 (1). In a centrifugal casting-mould, a vent comprises a core member 17 within a vent hole 15, rotation of the core member causing a scouring of the walls of the hole. The mould is lined with resin-bonded sand as described in Specification 717,515. The core 17 is of square, octagonal, star or, as shown, hexagonal shape. It is supported in the vent hole by toothed spring washers 19-21 retained by a sleeve 14 secured by peening 24. The core member is set flush with the mould surface by a jig 25. The member is rotated to clean the hole by a socket wrench. A further modified member has ridges 32, Fig. 8, which feed the scoured material out of the vent-hole.
