Abstract
864,264. Valve oscillating circuits. MAYO, C. G., and WIGAN, E. R. Jan. 30, 1959 [Feb. 8, 1958], No. 4194/58. Class 40(6) [Also in Groups XXXVI and XL(b)] A frequency determining network for a selective amplifier or an R.C. oscillator comprises two electric components (see Group XXXVI) arranged to form a four terminal network having series resistance and shunt capacitance. As shown in Fig. 3 a frequency determining network has a first branch Y, comprising a first component RC1 in series with a capacitor Cl, connected in series with a second branch Z which comprises a second component RC2 in parallel with a second capacitor C2. The input to the network is applied across the two branches in series, and the output is taken across the branch Z. For the oscillator shown, the input voltage V1 to the network is taken from the output of an amplifier G and the output voltage V2 is fed back to the input of the amplifier to produce oscillation. Resistors and further capacitors may be connected in series and/or parallel with the components or branches to modify the response characteristic, for example to compensate for stray capacitance. The component is in the form of a distributed series R and parallel C line, either open circuit or short circuit at one end, the two terminals of the other end constituting the terminals of the component. Alternatively to modify the performance a finite termination, e.g. a parallel R.C. combination may be added.
