Abstract

864,039. Preserving packaged meat. DIAMOND NATIONAL CORPORATION. April 28, 1959 [July 23, 1958], No. 14541/59. Class 49. [Also in Group XVII] A moulded pulp tray 12 for meat or poultry has the inner surface of the base 10 covered with cylindrical depressions 18 which trap any juices draining from the food. The method of moulding results in the walls of the depressions being more absorbent than the upper surface of the base. Further shallow depressions may be provided between the depressions 18 to decrease the area of the base that is in contact with the food and so reduce dehydration. Wet strength resins can be added to the pulp to strengthen the tray and the pulp may be harder sized.
