Abstract

863,713. Vehicle stands &c. BUTTERWORTH, A. J. Dec. 15, 1958 [Dec. 13, 1957], No. 38884/57. Class 79(3). Apparatus for parking a car comprises ground engaging rollers disposed at opposite sides of the car at the end remote from the driven wheels, means being provided for moving the rollers in an up and down direction whereby they may engage the ground and lift the vehicle, the rollers being so mounted that when engaging the ground their axes of rotation are parallel with each other and with the ground and are inclined to a fore-and-aft axis of the vehicle. In a front wheel drive vehicle, Fig. 2, the rollers 5 may be mounted on the plungers of hydraulic rams 3 attached to the back axle 1 with their axes vertical. The rams are connected to a valve 14 under the control of the driver by pipes 9 and 12 and flexible tube 11. A pump 15 is fed from a reservoir 17 and driven by a transmission 13 from the vehicle engine and may connect the rams with either the pump or the reservoir. The ram plungers return under spring loading. In modifications, Figs. 4''and 5, the rollers 5 are mounted on pivoted arms 23 and 24, the rams 28 also being pivoted to the axle 1.
