Abstract

A gate 1 slides in an outer frame 2 to close a doorway or the like. A latch plate 16 engages on latch pins 7 to hold the gate against an outer frame member 4, as is known in the art. To securely lock the gate and allow access from either side a key operated lock 26, accessible from either side, moves a plate 27 into and out of engagement with an arm 21 on plate 16 to prevent or allow lifting of the plate 16 using exposed arm end 25, to unlatch the gate. In a preferred embodiment lock 26 also moves pins 29, 30 into apertures in the outer frame when locking the gate. <IMAGE>
