[Also in Group XL (c)] A device for deriving digitized binary signals representing the sine or cosine of an angle comprises a digit disc 40 and a second disc 65 which is angularly displaced relative to the disc 40 by half a sector, the sectors being indicated by the full radial lines, Fig. 2. The markings on the digit discs are sensed by brushes, or by photo-cells, Fig. 3. Peripheral markings 55, 56, 57 are sensed by cell 60 in the latter case, and the cell output passes to a switch control 61 which feeds a switching circuit 62 so that the sensing system reads only from the disc whose centre of a sector is near the photo-cells. Difficulty which might occur in sensing at a sector boundary is thereby avoided. The Provisional Specification states that the Gray code may be used on the digit discs.
