Abstract

862,130. Battery charging systems; rectifying. KOEHLER MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 29, 1959, No. 3272/59. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). A battery charging system comprises a source of pulsating direct voltage 17-20 supplying the battery 14 through an inductor 13 which saturates when the charging current is high and unsaturates when it is low so that the charging current is reduced more steeply as the battery approaches full charge. An indicator lamp may be connected across the inductor 13 to illuminate as the battery charges, and a second lamp connected across a second series inductor may act in the reverse sense. An alternative arrangement is described in the Specification whereby the two inductor cores are linked by a common winding.
