Abstract
861,862. Snap-action switches. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS. May 3, 1957, No. 14225/57. Class 38 (5). A switch has a pivoted actuating member connected by a spring to a driven member having an integral flange which engages a stationary member to secure the driven member thereto. The actuating member is moved by a handle, pivoted about an axis remote from but parallel to the pivotal axis of the actuating member, until a cam surface on the actuating member flexes the flange out of engagement with the stationary member and allows the driven member to be moved by the spring. As shown in Figs. 3 and 9, the actuating-member 94 and the driven member 74 are commonly pivoted on a pin 76 secured to a U-shaped bracket 50. Locking-projections 90 on the side flanges 78 of the member 74 engage in recesses on an arcuate detent plate 62 mounted on the bracket 50 and the projections are released from the recesses by cam surfaces 102 formed on member 94. A spring 110 is wrapped around the pin 76 and ends 116 of the spring are received in notches 108 in the actuating member and 92 in the driven member. The moving contacts 30 are carried by a blade-spring 128 trapped between the rounded ends 129 of the member 94 and the web 80 of the member 74. Positive actuation is provided by lugs 104 on the actuating member. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 10 and 14, the actuating member 74a is locked in each of its actuated positions by protrusions 138<SP>1</SP> which engage in holes 134 in bars 132 extending across the switch casing. The moving contact member 128a is pivoted to the common pivot-pin 76a and is centralized with respect to the member 74a by a coil-spring 110b. Transmission between the members 74a and 94a is provided by a coil-spring 140 stretched between a pair of pins 142 fitting into notches 92a, 108a in the members 74a, 94a, respectively.
