Abstract
861,722. Air conditioning. NORMALAIR Ltd. June 20, 1958, No. 19759/58. Class 137 In an air conditioning unit for a vehicle, a fan 19 draws fresh air and recirculated air via inlet 14 and grille 22 respectively, through variable heating and cooling systems 17 and 11 which are in the form of closed circuits, the refrigerant circuit incorporating a by pass which operates according to a predetermined pressure drop at the inlet 13 of a refrigerant compressor 1 which is driven by the vehicle engine or a separate electric or hydraulic motor or an internal combustion engine. Refrigerant vapour from 1 passes to evaporator 11 via condenser 5, and returns to 1 via valve 12 controlled by thermostat 7, and suction control valve 26 operates the by pass from outlet 4 to inlet 13. The heater 17 is supplied with hot water from the engine radiator 6, a by pass valve 23 being regulated by thermostat 25. The fresh air and recirculated air is mixed in chamber 16 and fan 19 either draws or discharges air through 16, 11, 17 or vice versa, the conditioned air entering the vehicle enclosure via 20. The unit may be mounted above or below the vehicle enclosure and the amount of fresh air and recirculated air entering the system is electrically, hydraulically, mechanically, thermally or manually controlled.
