Abstract
861,478. Mounting film strips. CAMPBELL, J. J-L Feb. 20, 1959 [Nov. 21, 1957], No. 36312/57. Class 98(2) Microfilms 14, Fig. I. are filed for storage by being permanently enclosed between transparent front and back panels 10, 11 of which at least one is of adhesive material which bonds under pressure. The film can thus be projected without removing it from the file. The file can be made by the apparatus shown in Fig. 3. A strip 24 of transparent adhesive tape is unrolled from a drum 23, and a strip of developed microfilm 27 unrolled from a spool 26. They are passed together between rollers 31, 32, which press them into adhesive contact. A tensioning device is provided for adjusting the pressure between the rollers. The tape is slightly wider than the film, so that it projects along both edges. The double tape-film layer is fed into a shoot 67, a suitable length being cut off by a guillotine 47. From here it is led to a movable carriage 20 carrying the plastic strip 11, on which the tapefilm layer is deposited. The carriage is then caused to move to the left from the position shown in Fig. 3, the pressure of a spring-loaded roller 70 causing the overlapping tape edges to be bonded to the bottom strip 11, so that all three layers are now bonded into a unitary structure. According to the Provisional Specification, the transparent file may be made first and the film inserted therein afterwards.
