Abstract
Aluminium and alloys thereof are brightened by treatment with a phosphoric acid-nitric acid solution containing one or more of 2, 4, 6 triamino-s-triazine, carbamide and dicyandiamide to inhibit fuming. Suitable solutions consist, by weight, of 75-87% phosphoric acid, 2-5% nitric acid, 0.05-3% of the fume inhibitor and water. Other materials which may be included in the solutions are sodium nitrate, sodium sulphate, ferrous sulphate, copper sulphate, manganese sulphate, and nickel sulphate. Brightening is effected at a temperature of 160 DEG -230 DEG F.
