A mirror 1 is mounted centrally or eccentrically in front of a frusto-conical or frusto-pyramidal reflector 2, the user being illuminated by light reflected by reflector 2 from a lamp 3 behind the mirror. A transparent ornamented or coloured cover may bridge the gap between the mirror and the outer edge of the reflector. The mirror may be convex. The apparatus may be mounted as a dressing-table mirror or a hand mirror having a switch either supplied from the mains or from a battery in the handle. Alternatively, it may form the lid of a powder compact, the lamp being supplied from a battery and energized by a switch which is closed when the compact is opened.
